Birthday Week!

What a busy week it has been. All week long i answered, "Is it my birthday yet?!?" from Isaiah. So, finally, yesterday arrived and my baby (big boy!) turned 5!!! I can't really even express how shocking it is to have a 5 year old. I feel like it was just a day or two ago that i first held him... that i layed awake in the hospital, unable to sleep because i just wanted to stare. I remember wondering if i would ever be able to take my eyes off him long enough to rest. There is something so magical about your first baby being born. Don't get me wrong. All 3 of my children's births have been exciting, wonderful, and thrilling. But you can't ever recreate the first one. You moms know what i mean. You can't imagine what it will be like to have that baby out of your tummy and actually hold them and care for them. and then, suddenly, they are with you. They are depending on you. They are LOOKING at you! It is amazing.
A lot has happened in 5 years. He grew, he changed, he talked, he learned things. He acquired a sister and a brother. He asked Jesus to save him. He started school. wow. I know we have all said it, but sometimes i really do wish i could freeze time just briefly so i could try to take it all in and savor it.
So, who is this 5 year old today? He is the most joyful, encouraging, helpful, tender little boy i have ever met. I am biased i know, but there is something extra special about him. :) He loves Superheros, Legos, and especially Star Wars right now, even though he has not seen the movie. He is learning to read a little and write some words. He is memorizing Scripture verses. He adores his sister and brother and loves to help them do things. He has lost the look of a little boy and is getting skinny, tall, and a little shy and self conscious at times. He loves to hit baseballs and i must say, he is actually very good at it. Last weekend i found him outside throwing balls into the air and hitting them with his bat, essentially pitching to himself. I was pretty shocked because he was not just making slight contact. He was crushing the ball. It will be interesting to see if he hangs with this sport. He ADORES his Daddy. They have the sweetest relationship that is balanced with fun, creativity, respect, and love. (as an aside, his Daddy is AWESOME about being really involved with him!) He is a little over 45 inches tall. He wears a size 11 1/2 shoe. Oh i love this boy!!!
Today is his birthday party. We couldn't have it last night because the GHS football team was playing in the state semifinal game and we weren't missing that. And, by the way, they WON so they are playing for the State title next Saturday at the GA dome. woo hoo!!
Anyway, we are going to have the party at my parent's house at Isaiah's request. He doesn't know it yet, but we are renting a spiderman bounce house to put on their basketball court. It is pretty cold so we are also going to build a big fire and roast marshmallows with his 4 friends. He is very excited!! oh yeah, and we will be busting up a Darth Vader pinata as well. So fun!
Pictures to come...
Happy Birthday to my little man! We love you!!!
